31/07/2025

To mark the International Day Against Trafficking in Persons (30 July), the ERADICATING II project hosted a webinar focused on tackling human trafficking and labour exploitation in Europe. The event brought together experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to share insights, discuss current challenges, and strengthen cross-sector collaboration in prevention and response efforts.

The webinar was moderated and coordinated by Nefeli Papagiannakou, Senior project manager at KMOP – Social Action and Innovation Centre, a core partner of the ERADICATING II consortium. The event opened with Daniela Obster, Project Coordinator from the University of Applied Sciences for Public Service in Bavaria – Department of Policing, who provided an overview of the ERADICATING II project. She emphasized the importance of the project in addressing the growing challenge of trafficking for labour exploitation across Europe and highlighted its contribution to multi-agency cooperation.

Eliodor Tanislav, Chief Superintendent of Police and Head of Unit at ANITP – The National Authority Against Trafficking in Human Beings in Romania, followed with a presentation on Romania’s anti-human trafficking efforts. He shared insights, the institutional architecture, and Romania’s long-term strategy to combat human trafficking effectively.

Next, Christos Varsamis, Research Associate at KEMEA – Centre for Security Studies, presented key research findings from the ERADICATING II project. His intervention focused on the importance of developing training initiatives to upskill professionals who work directly or indirectly with potential victims of labour exploitation, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge.

Theoni Spathi, from CERTH-ITI, introduced the initial results of the VANGUARD EU-funded project. Her presentation highlighted how socially oriented research can contribute to a deeper understanding of trafficking in human beings and support more targeted and effective interventions.

As the project moves forward, several key activities are on the horizon. A Simulation Exercise will take place in Athens from 1 to 3 October 2025, offering an opportunity to apply practical scenarios and strengthen cross-sector cooperation. The next webinar is planned for October 2025, continuing the discussion on emerging challenges and solutions. Finally, the project will conclude with a Final Conference in Brussels on the 5th of  December 2025, bringing together stakeholders to reflect on results and policy recommendations.
