BlueRights Sub Working Group 2.2 on Forced Labour and Trafficking is focusing on the deprivation of liberty resulting from modern slavery and forced labour practices occurring at sea, including instances of human trafficking in maritime settings. The group is assessing how well the current legal framework protects individuals’ freedom in these contexts, identifying any gaps or weaknesses. It also gathers and analyzes best practices from various jurisdictions or sectors to highlight effective approaches. Based on its findings, the group will propose legal, administrative, and other reforms aimed at strengthening protections against these abuses and ensuring that all individuals at sea are safeguarded from exploitation and enjoy full liberty.
